   Best upgrade video I’ve seen.
   Lots of info about deactivating plugins, but this is the first time I’ve heard anyone say that it is good practice to go back to the default theme.

   I’ve not had to upgrade yet but I was aware that there is a choice…

   Manual upgrade, cPanel auto upgrade or the WordPress auto upgrade.

   You mention in the video that it is better to use the WordPress auto method rather than cPanel… does cPanel auto upgrade cause problems?

   You also mention a “how to backup your blog” video… can’t see it on the site, do you have a link.

   Hi Keith. This particular video was created by an associate of mine. If you have hosting using cPanel, you’re typically ok to do the upgrade that way, just make sure to back everything up first.

   I re-watched the video and didn’t see any part where he mentioned anything about upgrading through cPanel. If there’s a specific part you’re referencing, please tell me the time in the video to skip to.

   I re-watched the video and didn’t hear any mention of cPanel… must have been a long day.

   Yep it is.

   No it doesn’t.

   LOL

   Just make sure to back up your database and your WP Files before you upgrade. Most upgrades go fine, but just in case it’s always nice to know you can restore things to the way they were.

   Hi John
   I’m about to bite the bullet and upgrade using the WordPress Auto upgrade rather than via Cpanel.

   I notice that in the video your colleague deactivates plugins and reverts to the default WordPress theme.

   I can understand that deactivating plugins and reactivating them one at a time, allows for potential plugin conflicts with the new WordPress version but is it essential to revert to the default theme?

   When you upgrade, do you revert to default theme?

   Hi Keith. I revert to the default theme when it’s a big upgrade (i.e. when WordPress states its made a bunch of changes). I think I’ve done that twice.

   Also, if there are a lot of plugins, what I typically do is use the “select all” check mark to select all the plugins and then I use the drop down to deactivate them all at once.

   Then I do my auto upgrade. When it’s finished I quickly check the site just to make sure it loads. Then I head back to the plugins page and there’s a link at the top where you can reactivate recently deactivated plugins.

   I click that to activate all those plugins again and then check out the site one more time to make sure all is good. If not, then I may go through the plugins one at a time.

   Of course, I ALWAYS make a full backup first (hosting files and database).
