Hi Keith. I revert to the default theme when it's a big upgrade (i.e. when WordPress states its made a bunch of changes). I think I've done that twice.

Also, if there are a lot of plugins, what I typically do is use the "select all" check mark to select all the plugins and then I use the drop down to deactivate them all at once.

Then I do my auto upgrade. When it's finished I quickly check the site just to make sure it loads. Then I head back to the plugins page and there's a link at the top where you can reactivate recently deactivated plugins.

I click that to activate all those plugins again and then check out the site one more time to make sure all is good. If not, then I may go through the plugins one at a time.

Of course, I ALWAYS make a full backup first (hosting files and database).

Hi John
I'm about to bite the bullet and upgrade using the Wordpress Auto upgrade rather than via Cpanel.

I notice that in the video your colleague deactivates plugins and reverts to the default Wordpress theme.

I can understand that deactivating plugins and reactivating them one at a time, allows for potential plugin conflicts with the new Wordpress version but is it essential to revert to the default theme?

When you upgrade, do you revert to default theme?

@Keith - yep, you're good to go to deactivate and delete the version you have and then upload and activate the latest version plugin.

Hint: To find it easily, go to Plugins -> Add New in your blog's sidebar and search for BBQ.

That should bring it up quick.

John
When I created the plugin as shown above, I didn't call it "Block Bad Queries"

I'm guessing that this plugin does not create any database tables so I can simply delete the one I created and upload Jeff's.

Hi Keith... yep it is and I definitely gave him full credit for the plugin in the post above and also in WordPress Defender.

I made sure to ask him if first if I could include it in WordPress Defender.

Yeah Anysia (above) mentioned it, too. After this comment I'll log in and update the post.

Thanks for spotting it.

Hi
Just looked at Wordpress plugins repository - presumably the plugin is the "Block Bad Queries (BBQ)" by Jeff Starr.

Hi Anysia. Thanks for purchasing the ebook, I hope you like it.

Thanks for the update on the plugin. I added Jeff's plugin to the ebook at the last minute. He wrote the plugin and I emailed him asking if it was ok to put it in the book. Good to know it's now available for everyone in the plugin repository. It's a great (and simple) plugin.
